Types Of Vale Disorders?

by Zara Delprat

The heart is undoubtedly counted among the vital organs of the human body. After all, you may carry on with normal and most optimal functions of the entire body only if proper and pure blood supply is assured along with oxygen and nutrients to the entire body. And this task is performed by the heart. There are so many parts that constitute the heart and have some of the most important roles to play as far as the overall functioning of the heart is concerned. Out of various parts of the heart, valves are also important and necessary. There are four valves in the heart that perform important functions for the heart and facilitate normal blood flow within and outside of the heart. Unfortunately, the heart valves suffer from certain diseases or disorders as discussed below.

Stenosis of the valves

Medically, stenosis is the term used to refer to the stiffness in the valves of the heart due to which the size of the valve opening becomes quite narrow and thus blood flow is also restricted. That is why the affected tricuspid valve and other valves are unable to open up completely which in turn puts a hindrance in the supply of blood to the entire body. The patients may experience extreme pressure in the chest region.

Prolapse of the valves

It is a valvular disorder wherein the flaps or leaflets of the valve slip out of their place thereby creating a bulge at the given place. As a result of this disorder, the valves are unable to close properly or completely. Generally, the blood gets leaked backward through the affected valve. The flow of blood is also disturbed due to this disorder. Hence the heart and also the vital body organs are devoid of blood needed for various functions.

Regurgitation or leakage of the valves

Simply referred to as leakage, regurgitation generally occurs when there is a problem enclosure of the heart valves and the blood flows in the backward direction. In this case, as well, the affected tricuspid valve or the other valves disrupt the one-way flow of the blood in the heart. Consequently, unnecessary strain or pressure is put on the heart. The pumping action of the blood is also affected as there is a reduction in the efficiency of the heart. That is why there are problems with the flow of pure blood to the entire body.

These are all some of the most common types of disorders related to various valves of the heart. Due to problems in any of the valves, the overall functioning of the heart is affected adversely which in turn may harm the entire body. Hence timely diagnosis and treatment are very much important and necessary.
